Africa and the Milwaukee Public Museum

The Milwaukee Public Museum had some great displays about Africa.  One particular scene was of Maasai warriors hunting a lion:

The Maasai people live in Kenya and Northern Tanzania.

A collection of skull casts of ancient hominids was shown.

A comparison of the smallest and tallest Africans was made.  The one on the left is a pygmy and the one on the right is a Tutsi man.  The pygmies of Africa are defined when the men grow less than 59 inches tall.  According to wikipedia:

Pygmies live in several ethnic groups in Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia.

Unfortunately the pygmies of Africa are often captured and put into slavery or worse.

The Tutsi are unusually tall.  Most of the men are well over 6 feet tall and many are taller than 7 feet.  Many Tutsis live in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Unfortunately, due to colonization and favoritism of the Tutsis, a devastating civil war broke out between the Hutus and the Tutsis in the Rwanda Genocide of 1994.

Here are some more pictures of masks and pottery and other items from various tribes in Africa:

Some more from ancient Egypt:

They even had a replica of the famous Rosetta Stone:
