The idea of a flat Earth comes from Sumerian mythology and was forced on Europeans by the Catholic Church. The Nordics knew the Earth was round as shown by this passage in the Heimskringla:
The earth's round, on which mankind lives, is much indented. - Snorri Sturluson, Heimskringla, The Saga of the Ynglings - page 6.
