Many farmers relied on a book called
The Old Farmer's Almanac to help them decide when to plant their crops. The book gave weather data from the following years and made predictions on what the weather would be like for the upcoming year. It listed moon cycles as well as some old wive's tales used to advise planting times during certain moon cycles. Now the almanac is online. Here is a link to
