Seed Vault in Norway

There is a seed vault in Norway that is storing all of the seeds from around the world.  It has just completed its collection.  It is called the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and it has the seeds in an underground cavern.  The seed vault's purpose is to preserve seeds in the event of a global catastrophe and reintroduce them if necessary.

The seed vault cost about 45 million dollars to build and was paid for by the government of Norway.  It is thought that the seeds can be preserved for hundreds of years if not thousands of years.  There are about 400,000 seed samples in the vault.
